"20 Years of Service!"
Dr. Charles E. Coger has served the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church as its Pastor for twenty years. He was called to assist Pastor Samuel B. Redd during the spring of 1984.
Pastor Coger was licensed to preach the gospel in 1978 by the new Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland under the leadership of Bishop Walter S. Thomas.
Prior to his calling to assist Dr. Redd at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Pastor Coger served in numerous positions within the State Congress of Christian Education before assuming the position as its president, becoming the youngest person to lead the State Christian Education organization. Many of Pastor Coger's initiatives are in place today within the Local, State and National Departments of Christian Education!
During his twenty years as under shepherd at Mt. Ararat, Pastor Coger has initiated many new ministries, updated office projects, purchased (2) new buses, new organ, completed major renovations and a new addition, which includes a handicapped restroom and a full size elevator, updated ministries for children, youth and adults and works toward making Mt. Ararat "A Church determined to exalt our Lord and Savior, equip the believers, and evangelize the world around us."
Dr. Coger served within numerous positions within the State Convention before being selected to become its President in 2002, once again becoming its youngest President. During his tenure he has implemented new innovations and ministries for the State organization. The National President Dr. William J. Shaw selected him to proclaim the message during the National Baptist Convention session in New Orleans, La. Subsequently, Pastor Coger has been selected to preach at the National Congress Session in St. Louis, Mo. He serves on the National Board of Directors of the National Baptist Convention and the National Board of Directors for Christian Educators.
Other Services & Attributes...
- Selected to Chair the 2006 Local Committee, which coordinated the National Congress of Christian Education gathering of 55,000 persons in Baltimore, Md. making it the largest in both number of delegates and revenue nearly sixty million dollars, in the history of the City and the State of Maryland.
- Serves as Board Chair for the One Church One Child Adoption program under the auspice of DHR of the State of Maryland.
- Attended Polytechnic Institute, the Community College of Baltimore, Johns Hopkins University, and Virginia College and Seminary. He was honored by the Virginia College and Seminary with an Honorary Doctoral Degree in 2000.
- Serves on numerous Board and Commissions within our State and is often consulted by Christian Educators in the formation of their programs.
- Served as a Marketing Manager for USPS for 25 years. He is the recipient of many awards and honors.
He is married to Minister Sandra Jordan Coger, and they have three children, Pastor Myeskia Coger Watson, Kobie Coger and Chante' Coger, and three grandchildren Raven, Jordan, & Olisha.
